If you want a dirty tone from your amp, I highly recommend an Analogman Bass Beano Boost. I've had one for a very long time, it's a stellar pedal. Here it is with my amp:

That's amp volume at 5 (of 10), amp tone on ten, beano cranked the whole while. First I play with the Beano off with my guitar volume on 10, then I kick it on with my volume rolled down to 7, moving it to 8, 9, and finally 10.
